"Beginning the Procession"
(Camp Crier)
Artist Commentary

Crow Fir has long tradition in 1904... The Camp Crier would herald the parade entrants to take their places. In this painting he is alerting the families...

In the old times, he would rise through camp and tell the families to be ready to move to a new location that has fresh grass, water and game. He, also, spread current news.

Alex Medicine Horse served in this capacity until his passing. You could hear Alex at Crow Fair announcing the beginning of the procession in the Crow language from behind the wheel of a pick-up truck and through amplified speakers. The more things change the more they are the same.

"Beginning the Procession" is number three in our Native American Series was reproduced from an Original oil (20"x36"). It is limited to 850 signed by he artist and numbered lithographs with 85 artists proofs and 85 publishers proofs. It is printed on top quality 100% certified archival (300 years) pH neutral number 1 grade paper with an image size of 17 3/4"x32" and a 2' trim on all sides. It has been personally inspected and signed by the artist in pencil. The plates were destroyed after publication and no future issues will be produced.
