"Old Yellowstone Days"
Artist's Commentary

The geysers of Yellowstone Park are always inspiring...but in the winter they are spectacular. The crisp winter air and super heated geyser water create dramatic cloud patterns. It's no wonder early explorers called it "The Place where Hell Boils up". With all the geyser activity, the snow pack is light in thermal areas. Many early (and modern) visitors learned the hard way about scalding water and treacherous footing. The path of least resistance might not be the best route...

The U.S. Forest Service pack train inspired this Yellowstone outfitter painting. Their matched mule pack string with it's precision and good looks draws many fans across the country. I witnessed their training on a recent 26 mile day trip through the Madison Range...crossing and recrossing the high divide many times. Before stopping or heading out (whenever it was possible) the outfitter would circle them as depicted in the painting. He has drawn up to view the bull elk and, obviously, already has camp meat and is playing tourist. I am so used to being in jackpots and wrecks, it was my pleasure being with this well oiled outfit. (oiled in a good way)

"OLD YELLOWSTONE DAYS" is number 19 in the STALKING HORSE SERIES and was reproduced from an original oil (22"x36"). It is limited to 850 signed by the artist and numbered lithographs with 85 artist's proofs and 85 publisher's proofs. It is printed on top quality 100% certified archival (300 years) pH neutral number 1 grade paper with an image size of 19"x32" and a 2" trim on all sides. It has been personally inspected and signed by the artist in pencil. The plates have been destroyed after publication and no further issues will be produced.
