Sacrebleu!
(Surprise)
Artists Commentary

Ah!... the carefree life of a voyager.... Heading for the Post with packs of beaver safely stowed. What could possibly go wrong? No crawly pack mules or saddle horses jerking their picket ropes.... No more getting bucked off into rock piles. No more worry about adequate forage or sore backs. No more aimed kicks or inevitable dead fall wreck. Only the blissful peace of a gentle downstream canoe ride. Unless... you happen to disturb or surprise a vigorous bull moose in his favorite salad bar...

This animal has been described as being designed at a session of Congress, An animal composed of leftovers. But they're not a mistake. This is an agile, powerful and awe inspiring creature who is versatile and adaptable. Ask anyone who has put a "sneak" on one while his head is grazing underwater.... stealing closer and closer to get that great photo. When suddenly that hairy freight train charges you with his roach erect and nostrils flared!!! With a sound to rival an 18 wheeler... You better double your "Depends".

We has a cow moose and yearling winter with us in 91-92 and was a welcome guest along with our usual elk and four buffalo. They were welcome until they got to close to the house and adopted our decks, Then the final straw... they dined in one of our nurtured and beloved fir trees. I stepped out to shoo them away and my dog "Doc" decided to heel the cow. We had four feet of snow and, unfortunately, Doc headed west to my brothers house after she charged us. I turned her charge with a Sunkist naval orange between her nostrils. She and baby were last seen at high lope heading east. Doc was two miles away before I caught up with him...
